The Importance of Supporting Newborn Learning

The Importance of Supporting Newborn Learning

Yay, your little one is home and ready to start a full and happy life! The first few weeks at home will come as an exciting adventure to your new little bundle, they will be used to being rugged up and cozy in Mum's belly, but now there are brand new things to explore!

In the first few months of your bubs life, you may think that they just live for sleeping, feeding and snuggles. While this is a HUGE priority for them, everybody loves a cuddle from mum and dad, they are also forming their first impressions on the world and developing some very important skills - that they will use from the time they're 1 month old to 91 years old!  At Mizzie, we know its hard to navigate how to support newborn learning, so we've put together our top tips below:

Babies Learn When They Are Surprised!

Create engaging playtime by surprising your little one! This will pique their interest and engage their attention to help them learn more about the world around them! Using different sounds, experience and textures are the perfect way to gently surprise your little one - bringing them a new thing to touch that they've never felt or even reading a story in an engaging voice is a great way to surprise your little one into learning something new!

Babies Need To Develop Their Sight!

At birth, your baby's vision is pretty fuzzy and they can only see 20cm away from their face! Did you know that this is why babies love bright objects? Because they can see them better! Bub's vision is a little blurry while they are getting used to the world, so bright objects are perfect to help develop this sight - like perhaps our beautifully bright orange Mizzie!

Babies Need Time To Find Their Voice!

Here comes the chatterbox! When your little one comes home, they haven't realised that they can use their voice yet. As they approach 7-8 weeks old, they will be able to recognise and experiment with their vocals! Beginning with small vowel sounds (like "ah-ah" or "ooh-ooh"), until they are talking all day, every day! You can encourage this development by playing fun music, talking to your little one and reading great stories with engaging imagery!

At Mizzie, we love helping mums and bubs get through these key developmental years in a fun, caring and playful way! Let our friendly kangaroo Mizzie help with newborn learning through the Newborn Gift Set for Curious Babies! This includes all our Mizzie favourites to help with teething, sensory development, reading and voice activation!
